SRAGEN GEOGRAPHICAL CONDITION
Sragen Regency is one of regencies in Central Java Province, which is geographically located in the border of Central Java and East Java. The border areas of Sragen Regency :East Ngawi Regency (propinsi jawa timur)
West Boyolali Regency
South Karanganyar Regency
North Grobogan Regency
The width of Sragen Regency is 941.55 km2 and it is divided into 20 subdistricts, 8 Kelurahans (political district administered by lurah), and 200 villages.
Phisiologically, Sragen Regency Area is divided into : 40.037,93 Ha(42,52%) Wet Area(field)
54.117,88 Ha(57,48%) Dry Area
Sragen Regency is Located between :
7 º 15 LS and 7 º 30 South Latitude
110 º 45 BT and 111 º 10 East Longitude
The area of Sragen Rgegency is located in plain-land with approximate height :109 meters above sea level. Sragen has tropical climate with daily temperature around 19-31ºC. Average rainfall volume is under 3000 mm per year with rainy days less then 150 days each year.
According to 2005 data, the numbers of Sragen residents are 865, 417 persons, consists of 427,253 males and 438,164 females. The people density is approximately 919 people/km2.
Land Wide : 94.155 Ha
Field Wide : 40.129 Ha
Dry Land : 54.026 Ha
And divided into two parts, namely :
a. Southern Side of Bengawan Solo :
- Land Wide : 32.760 ha (34,79 %)
- Field Wide : 22.027 ha (54,85 %)
(9 Subdistricts, 88 Villages and Orchards)
b. Northern Side of Bengawan Solo :
- Land Wide : 61.395 ha (65,21 %)
- Field Wide : 18.102 ha (45,15 %)
(11 Subdistricts, 120 Villages) Bengawan Solo is the longest river in Java Island, Indonesia, with the spring in Wonogiri territory and empties in Bojonegoro Territory. Sragen located in the valley of Bengawan Solo River which flows to the east direction. The river has 548,53 in length and flows to Central Java Province and East Java Province . It passes through several regencies, Wonogiri, Pacitan, Sukoharjo , Klaten , Solo , Sragen, Ngawi, Blora , Bojonegoro , Tuban , Lamongan , and Gresik.
North region consists of hills, part of Kendeng Mountain Range. Meanwhile, south region consists of mountains, slope of Mount Lawu .
Sragen is located in Solo-Surabaya main route . This Regency is the eastern main gate of Central Java Province , which has direct borderline with East Java Province . Sragen is passed by train route (Surabaya-Yogyakarta-Jakarta) with its largest Station is in Sragen, and also Semarang-Solo Train route, with its largest station is in Gemolong.
Up Stream Area
The majority of this area covers the headwater of Tenggar River , headwater of Muning River , headwater of Gajah Mungkur Dam with a V-shape river longitudinal section. The vegetations in this region are dominated by acacia trees. The most activities in this area are agricultural works, such as rice and peanut. The river walls are sharp and high. Since usually being used for agriculture, there are high erosion and sedimentation in the area around the rivers.
Middle Area
This area, majority covers headwater of Gajah Mungkur Dam, half of Wonogiri Regency, Pacitan regency, Sukoharjo Regency, Klaten Regency, Solo Regency, Sragen Regency, half of Ngawi Regency and half of Tempuran (headwater) of Madiun river. Besides, this area is a region with dense population. Generally, the economic activities in the river area are higher than the ones in the headwater and downstream and dominated by industrial activities.
Hence, many dangerous wastes enter the river and pollute the vegetations in this area. The remarkable activities are agriculture, the use of water as daily needs, farm and industry.
Down Stream Area
This region majorly covers half of Tempuran, Madiun River , half of Ngawi Regency, Blora Regency, Bojonegoo Regency, Lamongan Regency, Tuban Regency, and it is ended in Ujungpangkah village, Gresik.
Administrative Division
Subdistrict: administrative area division in Indonesia which is under regency or city supervision. Subdistrict consists of villages or orchards. .
Sragen Regency consists of 20 subdistricts, which are divided in to 208 villages and orchards. The center of governance is in Sragen Subdistrict.
Natural Condition. Sragen has various reliefs, there are limestone mountains which spread from east to west and located in northern part of Bengawan Solo river and there are also lowland spreaded in all regions in Sragen Regency, with soil types are: gromusol, alluvial regosol, latosol, and mediteranian.
Climatology. Sragen Regency has tropical climate and medium temperature with rainfall volume is under 3,000 mm/year and rainy days are under 150 days/year in average.
